2012 Award for Distinguished Contributions to Assessment Psychology

Dr. Auke Tellegen received a Ph.D. in personality psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1962 and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical psychology at the University of Minnesota Medical School in 1963. He was a professor in the Department of Psychology from 1968 to 1999, when he became Professor Emeritus. Over the course of his long and prolific career Dr. Tellegen has made significant contributions to personality theory, understanding of the structure of mood, behavioral genetics, and psychological test construction. Moreover, through his contribution to the development of widely used self-report instruments, Dr. Tellegen has had made a significant impact on applied assessment of personality, hypnotic responsiveness, and psychopathology. He is author of the Multidimensional Personality Questionnaire (MPQ), a broadband personality inventory; co-author of the MMPI-2, MMPI-A, and MMPI-2-RF (Restructured Form); and author of the MMPI-2 Restructured Clinical (RC) Scales. In 2000 Dr. Tellegen received the Bruno Klopfer Distinguished Contribution Award from the Society of Personality Assessment and in 2001 received the Jack Block Award for Distinguished Contributions to Research in Personality Psychology from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology. .
